Please allow at least two hours between the time your land excursion begins or ends and your flight.Riverboat Discovery & Gold Dredge 8 (Fairbanks) The Mill at Ward Cove (Ketchikan)įounded and run by the Binkley family, the Riverboat Discovery and Gold Dredge 8 are Interior Alaska’s premier workplaces for seasonal employment. Guests need to make sure they do not reserve Land Excursions on the day of cruise tour arrival or departure that will conflict with their air schedules. Once the train arrives at the camp, local miners will give a brief but informative course in mining, and then you will try panning for yourself! You will find gold- we guarantee it! Next, explore the dredge camp and enjoy complimentary coffee and fresh-baked cookies in the gift shop as your gold is weighed then, hop aboard the train and return to the station. The train ride takes you to Gold Dredge 8 where you will see first hand how the dredge worked the gold fields. Then take a seat aboard the narrow-gauge Tanana Valley Railroad and hear the conductor tell tales of prospectors who arrived by the thousands during the gold rush.
